Chief Minister gives instructions to increase the number of oxygen equipped beds in hospitals

Raipur, 7 April 2021

Chief Minister today held a discussion with the cabinet members and the leaders of various communities and social organization about the current challenging circumstances in the state due to COVID infection. Chief Minister interacted with the community representatives in five Divisional Headquarters via video conference and informed them about the serious issue of rising COVID infection in the state. Chief Minister asked the community leaders and representatives for their suggestions in this scenario. He requested them to motivate people for COVID test and vaccination, and for strict compliance to the precautionary measures such as wearing mask, maintaining physical distance and washing hands frequently. Health Minister Mr. T.S. Singhdev, Home Minister Mr. Tamradhwaj Sahu, Agriculture Minister Mr. Ravindra Choubey, School Education Minister Dr. Premasai Singh Tekam, Excise Minister Mr. Kawasi Lakhma, Food Minister Mr. Amarjeet Bhagat, Urban Administration Minister Dr. Shiv Kumar Daharia, Revenue Minister Mr. Jaysingh Agrawal, Women and Child Development Minister Smt. Anila Bhendia, Public Health Engineering Minister Guru Rudra Kumar, Advisor to the Chief Minister Mr. Rajesh Tiwari and Chief Secretary Mr. Amitabh Jain also attended the video conference.

Mr. Baghel appealed all the community leaders and the representatives of social organizations to support and cooperate with the government in prevention and control of this COVID-crisis. He said that last year, we successfully controlled the spread of COVID infection with the active cooperation of all the sections of society. We need the same kind of support and cooperation from all the sections of society at present to overcome this crisis once again. Chief Minister also appealed for financial, material and voluntary support for increasing the number of oxygen-equipped beds in hospitals and covid care centers as well as for providing food and other facilities to the needy in locked-down areas.
In the meeting, Chief Minister Mr. Baghel also sought suggestions from experts of AIIMS Raipur, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Memorial Hospital, SIMS Bilaspur and representatives of Indian Medical Council, who had joined the video conference online. Experts pointed out the need to increase the number of beds with oxygen facility asa well as the human resources in hospitals. Experts said that COVID-infected people are arriving at the hospital very late for treatment. The number of deaths due to COVID is increasing because people are delaying their treatment and by the time they reach hospital, their condition reaches critical stage. Representatives of the Indian Medical Council suggested that a central referral system should be created to treat the patients in critical stage. Also, standard treatment protocols should also be set up, involving experts from the government and private sector.

Experts called for the active support of social and civic organizations to control the spread of COVID infection. He said that these organizations would be very helpful in making people aware about vaccination, screening, infection prevention measures and necessary precautions. They suggested that Covid Care Centers can be operated in various social buildings for the patients who do not need oxygen facility.
Chief Minister interacted with the representatives and leaders of Muslim community, Sikh community, Christian community, Jain community, Buddhist community, Brahmin community, Kshatriya community, Sahu community, Kurmi community, Devangan community, Yadav community, Satnami community, Gond community, Nagesi community, Kanwar Samaj, Oraon Samaj, Pahari Korwa Samaj and other communities via video conference. Addressing the community leaders, Mr. Baghel said that compared to last year, people are less cautious of COVID infection this year. COVID-19 patients are being found in cities as well as villages. Infection of one person is affecting the entire family. In the meeting, Chief Minister directed the Health Department officials to increase the number of beds with oxygen facility  as per the requirement on priority basis. He said that hostels and other government buildings can be used for COVID care centers. He also suggested increasing the reserved number of beds with oxygen facility in private hospitals for COVID patients by 50 percent.

Pillai, Additional Chief Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Subrat Sahu, Secretary Mr. Siddharth Komal Pardeshi, Director of Health Services Mr. Neeraj Bansod and Director of National Health Mission Dr. Priyanka Shukla were also present. At the same time, Dr. Nitin Nagerkar, Director, AIIMS Raipur, Dr. Ajay Behera, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar Hospital Dean Dr. Vishnu Dutt, Superintendent Dr. Vineet Jain, Dr. O.P. Sundrani, Dr. Trupti Nagariya, Dean of Bilaspur Medical College, Dr. Rakesh Gupta of Indian Medical Council, Dr. Mahesh Sinha, along with the Divisional Commissioners, Inspector Generals of Police, Collectors and Superintendents of Police  from Raipur, Bilaspur, Bastar, Sarguja and Durg also attended this video conference chaired by Chief Minister online.
