Raipur, 24 November 2021: The Chhattisgarh State Election Commission has announced the upcoming general and by-elections to be held in the urban bodies. Chhattisgarh State Election Commissioner Thakur Ram Singh announced the election dates in a press conference held at Nirvachan Bhawan today at 12.00 noon.

He said that the Chhattisgarh State Election Commission has decided that general elections will be held in 370 wards of 15 urban bodies and bye-elections in 18 wards of 16 urban bodies. For this, voting will be held on December 20 from 8 am to 5 pm. After this, counting of votes and declaration of election results will be done on December 23. With this announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force in all these urban bodies.

Candidates will be able to file nomination papers from November 27 to December 3 and can withdraw their nominations till December 6

In the press conference, Chhattisgarh State Election Commissioner, Thakur Ram Singh, while explaining in detail about the program outline, said that on November 27, 2021, the district election officers will publish the information regarding the election and the reservation of seats at 10:30 am. After this, the list of polling stations will be published by the Returning Officer on November 27 itself at 10:30 am. The Election Commissioner said that from November 27, the Returning Officer will receive the nomination papers from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm.

Chhattisgarh State Election Commissioner Thakur Ram Singh informed that the last date for receipt of nomination papers will be till 3:00 PM on December 3, 2021 and the next day the scrutiny of nomination papers will be done by the Returning Officer. The last date for withdrawal of nominations for the candidates will be 6th December 2021 till 3:00 PM.

After the candidates withdraw their candidature, the Returning Officer will prepare the final list of contesting candidates and allot the electoral symbols. After this, votes will be cast in 1000 polling stations earmarked for general election and 37 polling stations earmarked for bye-election on 20th December, after which the results of the election will be announced by the Returning Officer after counting of votes on 23rd December.

Ballot box and ballot paper will vote on party basis
The State Election Commissioner said that the voting will be conducted through ballot box ie ballot box. Pink colored ballot paper will be used for voting. Elections to Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats will be held on party basis.

With the announcement of the election program by the Chhattisgarh State Election Commission, the model code of conduct has come into force in the areas of such municipalities where elections are to be held.
From the date of the announcement of the election till the election is over, no such order shall be passed or any such declaration shall be made by any municipality or any department or undertaking of the State Government which will benefit any area or class of voters. Any facility, exemption, assistance or any other form of financial assistance or money is received with a view to doing so.

Chhattisgarh State Election Commissioner Thakur Ram Singh said that no new work, plan or project can be approved or announced by the municipalities or the state government during the election proceedings.
