Very Special Post shared by Ainsley Ross Miss Louisiana Teen USA 2022 on Monday. June 6, 2022
“As a little girl I was scared of monsters. My parents told me they didn’t exist. How I wish they would have told me the whole truth. Monsters do exist; they’re just not hiding in closets. They’re standing in the light of day. They are found within us, in lies, doubt, fear, and unreachable expectations of beauty that we think will earn us love. Make no mistake, monsters are real. And we must fight them.” - Leah Darrow I recently read “The Other Side of Beauty” by Leah Darrow for the 3rd time. This book is so eye-opening to the experiences we all face. We all think that if we lose a little more weight, get rid of our acne, or become more like ‘her’, then we will be loved. But the truth is that we are already loved. We constantly compare ourselves to other people. Growing up, comparison was my biggest struggle. I saw girls who I thought were prettier, smarter, & more successful than me. I wanted to be anyone, except myself. Then one day I decided that I wanted to be who I was truly made to be. I stopped looking to the world for validation & found it within myself. I still struggle from time to time, but my overall view of myself has changed. Here are some things I do when I start to fall into the trap of comparison: 1. Get off your phone!!!!! Social media is last place to try & find validation. 2. Get outside & spend time alone. This is how I figured out who I really was & what made me, me. 3. Spend more time with a Bible in your hands. If you don’t know where to start, just open it up to a random page & find a verse to meditate on. God always shows you exactly what you need. 4. Romanticize your life!!!! Go for that Hot Girl Walk, go get a matcha, & listen to your favorite podcast. 5. Learn to celebrate other people’s wins. When I learned that other people’s success doesn’t take any from my own, my life changed.
