Over 26.10 lakh workers in MNREGA getting employment during lockdown
More than 44 thousand works going on in more than 10 thousand gram panchayats of the state
In MNREGA, more than 79 percent job card holders are working
Raipur, May 23, 2020 In accordance with the instructions of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel, more than 26 lakh needy laborers have been employed in the MNREGA works started in the state to provide employment to the villagers in the villages. Mr. Baghel has also instructed to provide jobs to more and more MNREGA job card holders in the villages and to prepare to provide immediate employment to the migrant laborers returning home and seeking work after completion of their quarantine period. In all the districts, the administration is preparing it with promptness.
MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) is proving to be very effective in Chhattisgarh during the nationwide lockdown implemented for control of Kovid-19. The number of laborers working in MNREGA is increasing continuously. According to the report released by the MNREGA, out of 11 thousand 668 gram panchayats in Chhattisgarh, 44 thousand 833 MNREGA works are going on in 10 thousand 203 gram panchayats, in which 26 lakh 10 thousand 155 workers are working. Out of the workers who have been issued the job cards of MNREGA, about 79 percent are currently employed.
More than 80 percent job card holders are employed in 12 districts of Raipur, Bilaspur, Surguja, Kawardha, Bijapur, Mahasamund, Durg, Gorela-Pendra-Marwahi, Rajnandgaon, Mungeli and Balod districts under MNREGA. The percentage of laborers in the 12 districts of the state, Balodabazar, Gariaband, Balrampur, Bemetra, Dhamtari, Jashpur, Narayanpur, Janjgir-Champa, Dantewada, Korea, Surajpur and Kanker, is between 79 and 60 percent. Similarly, in four districts Raigad, Korba, Kondagaon and Bastar district, the percentage of laborers holding job cards is between 51 to 59 percent.
Workers are feeling relieved from getting work in the village itself in the period of lock-down through MNREGA. Timely wage payment to the workers has given rise to the rural economy along with addressing the concerns of family maintenance. Due to the massive MGNREGA works launched in Chhattisgarh during the lockdown, the amount is reaching the hands of the laborers under adverse conditions, it has made the villagers free from the worry of employment as well as increased their purchasing power.
Diversified assets are being created in MNREGA to strengthen infrastructure related to agriculture, horticulture and animal husbandry along with water conservation as part of community and individual lifelong enrichment works. Under MNREGA, water conservation and livelihood promotion works are being approved on priority basis in villages. Private development in all development blocks, wells, land reforms, bunds, pond construction, animal shed construction, plantation, pasture building, plantation on government land, individual fruitful plantations, anganwadi building construction, goat sheds, poultry sheds, women Through the group, works are being carried out in the nursery such as plant construction, drain construction for irrigation, drainage for drainage from the village, boulder dams, check dams, gabion construction and work-shed construction for women groups.
All the measures to avoid Corona virus infection and the guidelines of the Central and State Government are being followed in the ongoing MNREGA works in the state. In all workplaces, with the support of the MNREGA team and panchayats, social and physical distance is being strictly followed to cover the face with a mask or cloth and wash hands with soap. The workplaces are constantly being monitored by the officials by monitoring them.
