Raipur: Story of Kandora's Sudhan Ram becomes self-reliant from the wells of MNREGA: moving towards prosperity by adopting vegetable cultivation
Raipur, 19 November 2020
If a person has a strong desire and passion to move forward, then not only do the obstacles get removed, but the path of progress is being made automatically. Due to little effort and awareness, the standard of living of Sudhanram has changed.
Instead of traditional farming, he has started earning better profits by adopting vegetable farming.
Sudhanram is a farmer of village Kandora in Kunkuri district of Jashpur district. Due to lack of means of irrigation, Sudhanram also had the condition of small and marginal farmers, whose destiny is agriculture and wages.
Under the MGNREGA, Sudhanram started a new farming practice by constructing a well in his field. He started cultivating barbatti, spinach, radish, cabbage, onion, tomato, potato, etc. in his 2-3 acres of agricultural land instead of traditional farming. Availability of irrigation led to good yields.
Income increased and the family got financial support. Vegetable and vegetable cultivation yielded an income of 20 to 22 thousand rupees in the initial phase. Which increased their enthusiasm. Sudhanram started taking dual crops from the well.
After taking a crop of paddy, they started earning extra income from vegetable cultivation.
There was a knock of happiness in Sudhan's house when he came to know that Mahatma Gandhi NREGA can be constructed well for irrigation. He went to the Gram Panchayat and took all the information in this regard and submitted an application with a well in his name. The construction of the well not only ensured year-round availability of water, but also provided an opportunity for employment and livelihood.
In this regard, Sudhan Ram says that Mahatma Gandhi NREGA has provided the basis for his life. The construction of wells has ensured better availability of livelihoods where water availability has been ensured throughout the year.
