Back in 2018, before either us even thought about competing in MAO/MAOT, we took a Kinky Boots dance class at @thedancecomplex with @__chriskane! We didn’t know each other. We didn’t speak to each other. But I do remember being in AWE of your lines. It’s like universe knew we’d be sisters one day.

I cannot believe today is the day you pass on the title of Miss Massachusetts’ Outstanding Teen. I am in awe of your poise, talent, and grace. You will continue to do outstanding things and I am so proud to call you my lil sis.

I keep reminding myself that this is NOT goodbye. In fact, there is no getting rid of me. I will always be there for you. I will always be rooting for you. I will always be your big sis!

And like the song says, I will always RAISE YOU UP! ❤️ Love you lots!

Statement by Teen Director Donna Perry Klamkin at Miss Massachusetts' Outstanding Teen

So, tomorrow is the big day when we will crown our next Miss Massachusetts’ Outstanding Teen!  We have 10 incredible young women who are ready, willing, and able to take on the job.  Any one of them will be a wonderful representative of not only our program, but for the entire Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  But, with the excitement of finding out who our new titleholder will be, there is also some sadness that we have to say “farewell” to our current titleholder.  It’s always a very bittersweet time for me as the State Teen Director to see one of my “pageant-daughters” move on to the next phase of her life.
Tess, you have been an exemplary titleholder this past year!  After not having a competition for two years due to the pandemic, you never wavered in your determination to pursue this amazing opportunity.  We are so glad you did!  Although it took some time for the in-person appearances to resume, you made sure that your social media presence was always timely and visible.  You continued to do fundraisers for your Social Impact Initiative “Catie’s Closet” and was always the first to volunteer when our sponsors had opportunities to help out in the community.  The bond that you formed with both Lyndsey in the two months she was Miss MA and now with Liz is wonderful. It is just so much fun to watch you two together!
You went to Orlando for the MAOT competition knowing what it used to be from your participation in the Teens-in-Training program and rolled with the punches with all of the changes that happened that week and in the months before while we were preparing.  You never once complained (at least to me!) and always had a smile on your face.  You did amazing in all phases of competition, and we were very happy that you came home for another nine months to be “our girl”.  You formed some incredible bonds with your sister-titleholders from across the country, and it was so cool to see you all reunite on Labor Day in Mystic at the Miss America Parade and at the Mohegan Sun at the Miss America Competition last December.  They will be your friends for life and will always be there for you.
I would be remiss if I didn’t give a shout out to your dad and sisters, but especially to your mom. Carolyn, you jumped in feet-first and accompanied (and drove) Tess to her appearances all over the state (and beyond).  I have always said that the title of MMAOTeen is truly a family affair and you certainly proved it!  Thank you for everything this past year. You’ve earned some downtime now!
I can’t wait to see what the future holds, especially to see what college you are going to choose from the amazing choices you have.  You will be incredible wherever you go and in your future career as a professional dancer. Thank you for being my 12th “pageant-daughter” and you will always have a special place in my heart with the other 11.  I know that you will continue to make me proud!
Love you lots!
Donna
