Suryavanshi Mahal IRC Webinar on Green Highways Hybrid Mode

Call to construct Green Highways at Indian Road Congress’ webinar

Jaipur, 24 Septembe 2021r: A 2-day hybrid webinar on “Sustainable Development of Green Highways In India”, was inaugurated at Suryavanshi Mahal of Hotel ITC Rajputana in Jaipur on Friday.

The webinar has been organized by the Indian Road Congress in cooperation with the Public Works Department, Government of Rajasthan. 

The hybrid webinar, which saw participation through physical as well as virtual mediums, was inaugurated with lighting of lamp by the event’s chief guest Shri C.P.Joshi, President, IRC, Shri I.K. Pandey, DG (RD) & SS, MoRTH, Shri S.K. Nirmal, ADG, MoRTH & Secretary General, IRC, Shri K.K. Pipri, VP, IRC, Shri H.R. Raheja, VP, IRC, Shri Jaswant Singh, VP, IRC, Shri Rajesh Yadav, Principal Secretary, PWD, Shri Chinn Hari Meena, Secretary, PWD, Shri Sanjiv Mathur, CE&AS, PWD, Shri D.R. Meghwal, CE (NH), PWD among others.

Welcoming the dignitaries as well as the participants, Shri Rajesh Yadav, Principal Secretary, PWD, said that it was a matter of pride for PWD to host IRC’s webinar. Briefing on the role of PWD in sustainable development, Shri Yadav said the department is taking measures to reduce the impact of construction activities on environment. He stressed on the need to create training modules for engineers and contractors to achieve the objectives of Green Highways. 

Shri Yadav further said that disposal of marble slurry and stone waste from mines is a big challenge in the state and there is need of R&D in this regard. He stressed on the need to create infrastructure to reduce road accidents in the state. Also, he directed the officials to seek help from forest authorities in identifying native species of flora and planting such trees along the highways in a step towards creating Green Highways.    
 
Shri C.P.Joshi, President, IRC, said it is a priority to think on striking a balance between conservation of resources and construction of highways. Authorities must implement green technologies to mitigate adverse impact on environment and to build long-lasting highways.
