Get to know Rio Miyazaki

Since I was six years old I actively took part in cheerleading and worked my way up to becoming a cheerleader for a professional baseball team. I am studying early childhood education at university with the goal of becoming a teacher and making a difference in children’s lives. I’m the type of person who doesn’t give up until I achieve my goals.

• I’m most proud of my cheerleading accomplishments in my life.

• If I could have any super power it would be to teleport around the world and enjoy all the interesting cultures.

• I’m inspired by Anne Sullivan.

• If I had to describe myself in one word it would be dedicated.

• I’m happiest when I’m cheerleading and making others smile through positive energy.

• I can’t live without cheerleading.

The 21 years old Shizuoka Prefecture born Miyazaki has Graduated from Shizuoka Shoyo High School attached to Tokai University. Currently studying at Kyoritsu Women’s University, Department of Child Studies, Faculty of Home Economics.

Miyazaki started learning cheerleading from an early age, and from the first grade of elementary school until she graduated, she belonged to a cheerleading team recognized by a J.League club. She has been working with the Shizuoka community since childhood to contribute to the revitalization of sports culture.

After entering the junior high school division of Shizuoka Shoyo High School attached to Tokai University, she participated in competitive cheerleading as a club activity, and achieved achievements such as winning the overall championship at the national championships in her first year of junior high school and her third year of high school.

Until last year, while attending Kyoritsu Women’s University, she was a member of a professional baseball team’s official cheerleading team, and through cheerleading, she not only participated in sports but also engaged in activities to bring energy and courage to local residents and fans.

Now that she is Miss Universe Japan, she focuses on the various inequality issues surrounding children studying at university, and will use Miss Universe to work to bring attention to current issues to many people.

Today, marks almost a year since I became Miss Universe Japan on August 30th, 2023, and it is time to hand over the crown to the next Miss Universe Japan. For me, it has been a long yet short year, and today marks the end of my term, but I promise to continue pursuing my dreams. I am grateful to everyone I met during my Miss Universe journey.Rio Miyazaki in Crown

While watching the semifinalists’ training every week this year, I felt that their potential is limitless. I believe they have made many sacrifices up until today, and mthe time they have spent preparing for this day is precious and immensely valuable. Today, one of them will be announced as the next Miss Universe Japan, but I want them to remember that each one of them is unique and irreplaceable.

And, I would like to express my gratitude to the Miss Universe Japan management office, my fellow Miss Universe Japan 2023 participants, my family, friends, and everyone who has been involved with me every step of the way.

To the National Director, @hirokomima , who has nurtured me up to this point. Today, I feel as if I am departing from my mother’s hands. I know I have often failed to express my feelings clearly and have been a handful. From now on, I will do my best to catch up to you and follow the example you have set for me, so please look forward to what’s to come of me.

To @a_mi29 , with whom I spent my time after becoming the representative of Japan. You showed me a world I hadn’t experienced before. You sometimes interacted with me with loving strictness and at other times enjoyed things together with me. I am very grateful to you and I am filled with much love for you. Additionally, I would like to thank your family, who welcomed me during the period leading up to the world competition. Thank you very much.

Finally, to my parents,
I will never forget how you came to the world competition venue and cheered me on with all your might, waving the Japanese flag. Thank you for everything, and I look forward to your continued support.
I am deeply grateful to my family for all the love and support they have given me.

With love to everyone who has been part of my journey up until today.
